The House of Cattier is located in the small village of Chigny-les-Roses, where the family has owned and cultivated its own vineyards since 1763. Today, patriarch Jean-Jacques Cattier oversees the family’s artisanal winemaking traditions, including the Armand de Brignac line, aged in one of the oldest cellars in Champagne, 119 steps below the surface. The bouquet combines citrus, orange blossom and peach with notes of yeast and warm brioche. Tiny bubbles foreshadow a creamy, decadent, sweet and intriguing experience on the palate, followed by a toasty, nutty finish. The Brignac dosage is aged for 12 months in French oak. Like the gold bottle, everything here is slightly whimsical, an aspect that no doubt adds to its popularity among those who like to celebrate with Champagne. Ace of Spades Brut Gold was voted the best Champagne in the world in a blind tasting of 1000 brands in 2010, and its first edition remains the iconic cuvée of the range. (Anthony Gismondi).
