The 169th edition of the Grande Cuvée has brought good fortune to Krug after two difficult years. The 2013 harvest produced extraordinary fruit from the old vineyards of Ambonnay and Ricey. Chef de Caves Julie Cavil says: "The Chardonnays of the year were magnificently fresh and pure, with great intensity and length, while the Pinot Noirs were powerful and persistent, with discreet fruit, while the Pinot Meunier added structure, tension and vivacity." The latest edition of the KGC is a stunning blend of 146 wines from 11 different vintages. The youngest dates back to 2013, while the oldest dates back to 2000. The final cuvée is composed of 43% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 22% Meunier, and has been aged for 84 months in Krug's cellars. What strikes is the freshness of this wine and the youth of its seductive nose, which tells of seven years on the lees. Rich, complex and mysterious, almonds and hazelnuts blend harmoniously with dried apricot, toasted bread and lemon zest. Intense, austere, dry and unforgettable. Let the journey begin.
