Chateau Bernadotte - 2006 - Haut Médoc
Château Bernadotte is a cru bourgeois located in the Haut-Médoc, near Pauillac. Originally Château Fournas, it was purchased in 1997 by May Eliane de Lencquesaing, who already owned Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. After extensive renovations, it came under the control of Roederer in 2007, then sold in 2012 to King Power. The estate covers 35 hectares of gravel, sand and clay soils, growing mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It produces around 10,000 cases a year of its Bordeaux blend, fermented in stainless steel and aged in French oak. The name comes from Jean Bernadotte, a former Napoleonic Marshal and King of Sweden, who remained attached to the site despite the château being built many years after his death.
