Luce is the first wine to be produced from a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot in Montalcino.
It was thanks to the collaboration of the Marchesi de' Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi families that the idea of combining the roundness and softness of Merlot with the structure and elegance of Sangiovese was born. The 1999 harvest was extremely favorable throughout Tuscany and, in particular, in Montalcino. The sun in July facilitated an early ripening of the grapes and the rare rains in August helped the vines complete their vegetative cycle. September and October were warm and sunny, bringing the grapes to ideal ripeness. The wines from this harvest are delicate, but at the same time with great constitution and a perfect structure for aging, together with velvety tannins and low acidity. This great vintage of an intense ruby color offers aromas of ripe fruit such as plums and blackberries with nuances of tobacco, leather, cinnamon and cloves.
