Château La Tour Carnet is a beautiful estate that stands out from the other properties in the region. Within its grounds lies a medieval castle surrounded by several moats, a drawbridge, and a tower, as well as a vast vineyard (over 170 hectares) comprising a single plot, situated on clay-marl soil, which was almost entirely replanted in the 1960s. This Quatrième Grand Cru Classé of the Haut-Médoc is now owned by Bernard Magrez.

We have mentioned Bernard Magrez’s substantial investments. He turned to the renowned winemaker and consultant Michel Rolland, who suggested that he renovate the winery and the vineyards.

They stretch for about 73 km, have an average age of thirty years, and are largely cultivated according to traditional principles inspired by sustainable agriculture. The reds are made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, while the whites are made from Sauvignon Blanc and Gris, Sémillon, and Muscadelle. The vineyards benefit greatly from a variety of soils composed mainly of clay, limestone, and gravel from the Garonne and the Pyrenees, which in turn rest on a limestone subsoil.
