Masi’s Campofiorin 1968 is one of the most significant historical expressions of Valpolicella’s winemaking evolution; it is often associated—sometimes incorrectly on the label or in the minds of collectors—with the world of Amarone due to its rich and structured style.

This wine is an innovative interpretation of the terroir, based on a technique of secondary fermentation on the pomace of dried grapes, which yields greater body, aromatic depth, and aging potential compared to traditional reds. Bottles from the late 1960s are now rare examples of the earliest historical productions of this style.

In the glass, it displays a deep garnet color with orange hues, a sign of its long aging. The bouquet is complex and mature, with notes of cherries in brandy, stewed fruit, prunes, cocoa, leather, sweet spices, and hints of balsamic aromas. Over time, more developed nuances of tobacco and forest floor emerge.

On the palate, it is full-bodied, warm, and enveloping, with a now silky tannic texture and a long, smooth finish. The balance between structure and smoothness makes it a meditation wine, an expression of a pivotal historical phase in the qualitative evolution of Masi’s Veronese wines.
