The 169th edition of the Grande Cuvée has brought good fortune to Krug after two difficult years. The 2013 harvest yielded extraordinary fruit from the old vineyards of Ambonnay and Ricey. Chef de Caves Julie Cavil says: “The Chardonnays of that year were magnificently fresh and pure, with great intensity and length, while the Pinot Noirs were powerful and persistent, with subtle fruit, and the Pinot Meunier added structure, tension, and liveliness.” The latest edition of the KGC is a stunning blend of 146 wines from 11 different vintages. The youngest dates back to 2013, while the oldest dates back to 2000. The final cuvée is composed of 43% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, and 22% Meunier, and has been aged for 84 months in Krug’s cellars. What stands out is the freshness of this wine and the youthful character of its seductive nose, which reveals seven years on the lees. Rich, complex, and mysterious, notes of almonds and hazelnuts blend harmoniously with dried apricot, toasted bread, and lemon zest. Intense, austere, dry, and unforgettable. Let the journey begin.
