Whiskey and Spirits

Whiskey is a distilled spirit produced by the fermentation and subsequent distillation of various grains, then aged in wooden barrels. Some grains, often barley, are germinated and turned into malt. The world’s finest whiskeys are considered to be those from Scotland, the United States, and Ireland—and, in recent years, Japan as well.

Whiskey is the quintessential spirit for contemplation, a treat to enjoy at the end of the day—one to be savored strictly without rushing.

You can enjoy it on its own or paired with Podolico cheese appetizers, or with aged pecorino for a more “robust” spirit, or with goat’s milk toma for something more delicate.

A classic pairing is with high-quality dark chocolate.
