Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame is the prestige cuvée of the Veuve Clicquot house, a vintage Champagne that represents the most elegant and refined expression of the house’s style, which has historically centered on Pinot Noir. The 2015 vintage in Champagne was generally sunny and ripe, with rich, well-concentrated grapes, which in this cuvée translate into a broader, more structured profile compared to fresher, more linear vintages.

The wine is made primarily from Pinot Noir grapes sourced from historic crus in the Montagne de Reims, with a touch of Chardonnay that adds tension and finesse. In the glass, it displays a fine, continuous perlage and an aromatic profile that combines ripe white and yellow fruit, candied citrus, and light floral notes, accompanied by more complex hints of brioche, hazelnut, and pastry resulting from aging on the lees. With aeration, deeper, almost mineral and slightly spicy nuances also emerge, typical of the finest Pinot Noir selections in warm vintages.

On the palate, this Champagne is full-bodied yet always elegant, with a creamy texture and a lively acidity that supports the wine’s body without making it heavy. The 2015 vintage tends to be more generous and rounded than cooler vintages, with a long, savory, and slightly toasty finish.

At the table, it pairs well with refined yet substantial cuisine: it is ideal with shellfish such as lobster and crayfish, with scallops seared in butter, but also with premium baked fish like turbot or sea bass served with light sauces. It also works very well with premium poultry such as capon or guinea fowl, especially in dishes prepared with butter, mushrooms, or delicate reductions. For a more creative twist, it can also accompany Asian dishes that aren’t overly spicy, where its creaminess and fruity notes strike a good balance.
