Sparkling wine plays a very important role in Italian wine production. Today, sparkling wines are produced in all Italian regions.
Let’s start with the Veneto region : Here, the most famous sparkling wines are those of Prosecco , an iconic wine. It is one of the world’s best-known and most widely exported wines, very fresh and perfect as an aperitif.
Asti DOCG , on the other hand , is produced in Piedmont , in the Alta Langa region. It is a sweet sparkling wine made using the Martinotti method. A special glass, the Coppa Asti , was even created to enjoy it perfectly.
Some of the best Italian sparkling wines are produced in Franciacorta , a hilly area in Lombardy that stretches between Brescia and Lake Iseo. To explore the wonderful bottles of Franciacorta wines, let’s start with the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Erbamat, and Pinot Bianco grape varieties. According to strict regulatory guidelines , the Franciacorta method —a classic method— is the only suitable method for production. Undoubtedly, the Franciacorta region has made a significant contribution to shaping the history of Italian sparkling wines worldwide.
Finally ,let’s discuss one of the symbols of Italian winemaking: Trento DOC . This designation is very important because it was the first to be dedicated exclusively to sparkling wine produced through bottle fermentation. We are in Trentino , where the history of sparkling wine production using the traditional method is deeply rooted and dates back many years.
