Château Maucaillou verdankt seinen Namen der Katasterbezeichnung des Bodens, auf dem es 1875 erbaut wurde. Sein Weinberg ist Teil eines der ältesten Terroirs des Médoc. Er nimmt eine privilegierte Lage zwischen Margaux und Saint-Julien in der Gemeinde Moulis ein, genau im geografischen Zentrum des Haut-Médoc. Er erstreckt sich über 90 Hektar, die mit Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot und Petit Verdot bepflanzt sind. Die drei Söhne von Philippe Dourthe haben inzwischen die Leitung des Weinguts übernommen, und Pascal führt heute das Familienanwesen. Die Weinbereitung erfolgt mit größter Sorgfalt in einem makellosen Keller, der mit modernster Ausstattung versehen ist. Die Weine von Château Maucaillou präsentieren sich mit einer schönen Farbe, haben wichtige Tannine und entwickeln ein intensives, subtiles und fruchtiges Aromenprofil. Großzügig und vollmundig, sind sie auch am Gaumen anhaltend und besitzen ein gutes Alterungspotenzial.
