Die jahrhundertealte Geschichte der burgundischen Weinberge ist zweifellos von den Mönchen und Abteien, aber auch von den päpstlichen Höfen wie Avignon und den Königshäusern geprägt, die lange Zeit zum Ruhm der erzeugten Weine beigetragen haben. Ludwig XIV., ein großer Weinliebhaber, machte aus seiner Vorliebe für die Weine der Romanée keinen Hehl. Die Marquise de Pompadour hatte versucht, den Weinberg zu kaufen, war aber vom Prinzen von Conti überholt worden. Die unbestrittenen Juwelen der Côte de Nuits, die Weinberge von Vosne, umfassen einige legendäre Crus wie Romanée-Conti oder La Tâche. Charakterisiert durch Reichtum, Finesse, Komplexität und Harmonie, verkörpern die Vosne-Romanée vor allem Eleganz. Sie zeichnen sich durch eine große Weichheit aus, die von ziemlich diskreten Tanninen und einem geringen Säuregehalt unterstützt wird. Diese vollmundigen Weine mit ausgezeichneter Nachhaltigkeit sind sehr aromatisch. Besonders hervorzuheben sind Noten von Kirsche, Erdbeere und Unterholz.
