This is a Pinot Noir with a strong character that perfectly reflects a vintage that was initially austere and very tannic, but which has now developed into a fascinating complexity. This specific vineyard—the most famous in Maranges due to its south-facing exposure and deep limestone soils—produces wines characterized by a solid, almost “earthy” structure that has softened over time without losing any of its power. Thirty years after harvest, the wine displays a garnet-red color with orange highlights and an aromatic profile dominated by tertiary notes of underbrush, leather, truffle, and licorice, which have replaced the crisp fruitiness of its youth. On the palate, the originally austere texture has transformed into a silky and profound mouthfeel, supported by a backbone of acidity that has ensured its exceptional longevity. Vinified according to Burgundian tradition, it is now a gem for connoisseurs of mature Burgundies and is best served at 16–17°C after a brief aeration to allow any sediment to settle. It pairs well with game birds, duck, or strong, aged cheeses.
