Recioto della Valpolicella ist ein historischer und sehr seltener Dessertwein, der zur großen Tradition des klassischen Valpolicella gehört. Er wird aus getrockneten Trauben nach der alten Recioto-Methode hergestellt und ist ein eleganter und intensiver Ausdruck der venezianischen Weinherstellung der 70er Jahre.
Er hat eine tiefgranatrote Farbe mit bernsteinfarbenen Reflexen, die auf die lange Reifung zurückzuführen sind, und entwickelt in der Nase komplexe Aromen von Kirsche in Alkohol, getrockneten Feigen, Rosinen, Kakao, süßem Tabak, Gewürzen und ätherischen Noten, die typisch für große, reife Weine sind. Am Gaumen ist er samtig, warm und umhüllend, mit einer Süße, die durch eine überraschende Frische und einen langen aromatischen Nachhall ausgeglichen wird.
Er gehört zu einer ikonischen Periode der handwerklichen Valpolicella-Produktion, als historische Häuser wie Masi dazu beitrugen, den internationalen Ruf der venezianischen Passito-Weine zu festigen. Heute gelten Flaschen wie diese als Sammlerweine, die sowohl wegen ihres historischen Wertes als auch wegen des Reizes großer, reifer Jahrgänge geschätzt werden.
