Der Tignanello is one of the great Rotweine of Marchesi Antinori, which in the 70's began after a long time. The Ideas, the first Entstehung zugrunde lag, war, Trauben with high Konzentration and weichen Tanninen zu erhalten, dank Eingriffen in die Pflanzdichte und den Rebschnitt, woraus ein Sangiovese entstand, der erstmals in Barriques ausgebaut und mit nicht-traditionellen Sorten as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc verschnitten wurde. Als Vorläufer der large Tuscan Rotweine, der Supertuscans, die aus der Vereinigung von autochthonen und internationalen Rebsorten entstanden sind, ist der Tignanello einer jener großen Weine, die Geschichte der Italian Önologie geprägt und zur Legende geworden sind.
