Tuscany is undoubtedly one of Italy's most important wine regions, thanks to its famous, internationally renowned wines. A true jewel of the global wine world, it boasts an extraordinary variety of wines with distinct characteristics and a history stretching back a thousand years, lost in the mists of time.

The typical Tuscan landscape alone speaks volumes about the region’s strong winemaking tradition: kilometers upon kilometers of splendid rows of vines stretching across the hills of Chianti and the Etruscan Coast, or nestled within the picture-perfect landscapes of the Val d’Orcia and Val di Chiana.

This includes eleven Designations of Origin with Guaranteed Quality (DOCG), forty-one Designations of Origin (DOC), and six Indications of Geographical Origin (IGT).

One cannot discuss Tuscan winemaking—or even winemaking worldwide—without thinking of Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Chianti Classico, and the Super Tuscans produced in the Bolgheri region.

The undisputed heart and soul of the region's red wines is Sangiovese, which is found in almost all DOCs. A red grape of great quality and character, though not easy to grow, it yields very different results depending on the microclimate and soil where it is grown.
