The Speri family is one of the oldest producers of Amarone, with its first bottles dating back to the late 1950s. The Speri family rates the 1969 vintage 4 out of 5, or "very good," considering it one of the best vintages between 1958 and 1982. Antonio Galloni writes in Wine Advocate: "Speri is a small family-run winery with vineyards in the historic part of Valpolicella. Stylistically, the Amarones are produced in a rather austere style. I find that the wines generally benefit from a few hours of aeration, especially the Recioto."
