Ceretto’s 1970 Barolo Zonchetta Brunate is one of the historic expressions of Langhe Nebbiolo produced by a winery that has played a decisive role in establishing Barolo’s international reputation. Hailing from the famous Brunate cru, situated between La Morra and Barolo, this wine is sourced from vineyards characterized by calcareous marl and mineral-rich soils, which impart elegance, depth, and great longevity. After more than fifty years of aging, the wine presents a classic pale garnet color with orange highlights and develops a highly complex aromatic profile, featuring notes of wilted rose, tar, leather, tobacco, undergrowth, truffle, sweet spices, and light balsamic and ethereal nuances typical of great mature Barolos. On the palate, it maintains finesse and balance, with tannins now smoothed out, still-vibrant acidity, and a long, refined finish that evokes earthy notes, black tea, and dried fruit. The Ceretto style of the 1970s combined Piedmontese tradition with a growing focus on cru quality, making wines like the Brunate Zonchetta particularly sought after by enthusiasts of old vintages. The few bottles still preserved in good condition are today considered collector’s items of great historical and oenological appeal.
