The 1997 Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac, part of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation in the Bordeaux region of France, is an elegant, full-bodied red wine that embodies the classic style of Bordeaux’s right bank. It is made primarily from Merlot grapes with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc, grown on siliceous-gravelly soils rich in clay and iron, which lend the wine complexity and minerality. This Saint-Émilion reflects the character of the Libournais terroir and thetypical blend dominated by Merlot, which imparts roundness and smoothness, while Cabernet Franc contributes aromatic freshness and structure. Today, a bottle of this vintage is considered fully matured and is in the final stage of its aging process, with complex aromas and fully integrated tannins, making it ideal for pairing with roasted red meats, game, duck, or aged cheeses, served at approximately 16–18 °C to best express its aromatic and flavor characteristics.
