Francone's Barolo Riserva 1965, with its 13% alcohol content, is a wine that recounts decades of Piedmontese Nebbiolo history. In the glass, it displays a deep garnet color, now verging on antique orange at the edges, a sign of its long evolution. On the nose, it opens with an elegant and complex bouquet: notes of leather, sweet tobacco, ripe cherries, and underbrush blend with nuances of delicate spices, dried roses, and a hint of licorice. With oxygenation, hints of dried fruit and hints of humus emerge, making the aroma layered and enveloping. On the palate, it remains harmonious and balanced: the tannins, now soft and silky, support an elegant and surprisingly lively structure, while the well-balanced acidity lends freshness and length. The finish is persistent, with hints of underbrush, truffle, and bitter cocoa.
