Poderi Aldo Conterno’s Barolo Romirasco is one of the great crus of Bussia (Monforte d’Alba) and represents one of the purest and most powerful expressions of Barolo in the Conterno family’s style.
It is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes from the Romirasco vineyard, which features very old vines (often over 50 years old), and is vinified using extended maceration and traditional aging in large Slavonian oak barrels. The style is typical of Aldo Conterno: great structure, yet always accompanied by elegance and aromatic precision, with meticulous tannin management to avoid excessive coarseness.
In the glass, Romirasco displays a deep garnet color and develops a highly complex bouquet ranging from dried rose to ripe cherry, extending to darker, tertiary notes such as licorice, tar, sweet spices, tobacco, and undergrowth. As it evolves, very refined balsamic and mineral nuances also emerge.
On the palate, this Barolo is full of energy and depth, with dense tannins that are generally silkier than those found in the appellation’s more austere expressions. Its structure is imposing yet well-balanced by a lively freshness, which allows it to age exceptionally well over time. It is a wine that tends to develop slowly and reaches its peak after many years in the bottle.
At the table, this is a wine for hearty meat dishes: it pairs perfectly with substantial braised meats, such as beef braised in Barolo, game like venison or roe deer, stewed wild boar, and rich traditional Piedmontese dishes like tajarin with meat sauce or agnolotti del plin with intense sauces. It also pairs very well with porcini mushrooms and aged or full-bodied blue cheeses, where its power and complexity find a natural balance.
