In the heart of the Côte des Blancs, on the lower slopes of Avize, a Chardonnay Grand Cru, Maison Jacquesson manages three parcels in the lieux-dits La Fosse, Némery and Champ Caïn, planted between 1962 and 1983 on poor and permeable calcareous soils. The Chardonnay grapes benefit from a south-east exposure and shallow soils that require occasional organic amendments. In 2000, the climate was marked by high temperatures, the highest average since 1956. The mild and dry winter without snow, followed by a spring with hailstorms and a summer alternating between incessant rain and hot days, put the vines to the test, with risks of downy mildew and botrytis. However, an improvement at the end of August allowed a harvest of remarkable quality under the September sun.
