Elegance, finesse, and sophistication are the words that come to mind when describing this wine, produced at an estate in the eastern part of Pomerol, near Saint-Émilion. The Château la Conseillante vineyard is one of the oldest on the Pomerol plateau and takes its name from Catherine Conseillan, the castle’s owner in the 18th century. Since 1871, it has belonged to the Nicolas family, who have passed down the tradition from generation to generation, maintaining the wine’s exceptionally high quality.

The 12 hectares of vineyards are divided into two sections with completely different characteristics, which correspond perfectly to the two grape varieties used in wine production: to the north, where the Merlot vines are planted, the gray clay soil rests on a subsoil of red clay, indicating a high iron content—a characteristic of the Petrus terroir. For the vineyards located to the south of the estate, near the Saint-Émilion appellation, the subsoil is sandy-gravelly, particularly well-suited to Cabernet Franc—a grape variety that expresses itself best at the nearby Cheval Blanc. The management of each individual plot is carefully maintained at every stage of the winemaking process, under the supervision of the talented Jean-Michel Laporte. The wines are then aged for nearly two years in barriques, with an annual turnover ranging from 60% to 100%, depending on the vintage.
