Frescobaldi’s 1979 Montesodi is a historic red wine made from 100% Sangiovese grapes from the Montesodi cru in the Rufina area, one of the most elegant and long-lived expressions of Chianti Rufina, now at the peak of its evolutionary maturity; It appears in the glass with a deep garnet color, featuring distinct orange highlights and brick-red hues typical of a wine over forty years old. On the nose, it is extremely complex and tertiary, with aromas of wilted rose, dried violet, cherries in alcohol, dried plum, tobacco, leather, sweet spices, wet earth, undergrowth, and highly developed balsamic and iron-like notes. on the palate, it is silky and harmonious with fully evolved, soft tannins, a structure now perfectly integrated by time, and a surprising residual freshness that still supports the mouthfeel, making it lively and refined; the finish is long, ethereal, and highly multifaceted with spicy and floral notes, The 1979 vintage in Tuscany was balanced and allowed for good long-term aging of the highest-quality wines; it is recommended to serve it at around 18 degrees with great care, avoiding excessive oxygenation so as not to disperse the more volatile aromas, It pairs best with delicate yet flavorful dishes such as stewed white meats, light roasts, mild game, and aged cheeses; alternatively, it can be enjoyed on its own as a meditation wine.
