The Louis Latour Pouilly-Fuissé is a Burgundy white wine made entirely from Chardonnay grapes in the Mâconnais region, one of the southernmost areas of Burgundy. It is a classic-style wine from the Louis Latour estate, historically one of Burgundy’s great négociants, which adheres to a fairly traditional approach that remains true to the terroir.

The 1997 vintage in Burgundy produced white wines that were generally ready to drink quite early, with a style that is more approachable than deeply structured; therefore, in the case of a Pouilly-Fuissé of this age, we are now faced with a mature wine, featuring tertiary aromas that may include honey, dried fruit, hints of hazelnut, butter, and light oxidative notes typical of aged Chardonnays. On the palate, it tends to lose some of its initial freshness and develop a softer, rounder texture, with less vibrant acidity than a young wine.

The character of Pouilly-Fuissé remains recognizable over time: it is a medium-bodied white wine, richer and “butterier” than the more mineral-driven Chardonnays of the Côte d’Or, with ripe fruit notes and a profile that is more food-friendly than refined or austere. Louis Latour crafts it in a clean, consistent style, without seeking excessive concentration.
