The 2009 “Titolo” is grown on the slopes of the extinct volcano Monte Vulture, in the Solagna del Titolo area (municipality of Barile, PZ), on volcanic soil rich in pozzolan, lapilli, and clay.
The vines are old (often 45–70 years old), and the grapes are harvested late and by hand.
In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red that already transitions to garnet red at the edges. On the nose, it bursts with a succession of sour cherry, ripe plum, and black currant, accompanied by more complex notes: oriental spices (cardamom, cloves), sweet tobacco, menthol-infused balms, and a hint of graphite and volcanic ash.
On the palate, it offers a full-bodied and harmonious structure: the attack is soft and enveloping, with well-defined yet silky tannins and an acidity that lends it liveliness and power. The minerality of the terroir is evident, along with a hint of saltiness and a persistence that leads to a long finish, featuring notes of ripe red fruits, sweet spices, and a bitter-tannic note typical of the grape variety.
This is a wine that showcases the very best of its terroir: elegant and austere at the same time, ready for further aging if stored properly, but enjoyable even after just a few years.
