Il Château Lafite Rothschild è un grande vino di Bordeaux della denominazione Pauillac, prodotto principalmente da Cabernet Sauvignon con supporto di Merlot, Cabernet Franc e Petit Verdot, secondo lo stile estremamente classico e raffinato del primo Grand Cru Classé. L’annata 1994 nel Médoc è considerata abbastanza tradizionale, con vini meno opulenti rispetto a millesimi più solari, ma caratterizzati da buona struttura, equilibrio e capacità di evoluzione, soprattutto nei grandi château. Nel caso di Lafite, il vino tende a esprimersi con estrema finezza più che potenza, e con il tempo sviluppa un profilo aromatico molto complesso che può includere note di cedro, grafite, tabacco, cassis maturo, foglia di ribes e sfumature terziarie di cuoio e spezie dolci. In bocca rimane generalmente elegante, con tannini fitti ma setosi e una trama più verticale che muscolare, anche se in un’annata come il 1994 la sensazione complessiva è meno ricca rispetto ai grandi anni “iconici” della tenuta. Oggi un Lafite 1994 ben conservato si trova in una fase evolutiva avanzata ma ancora interessante, in cui la complessità aromatica prevale sulla freschezza primaria, rendendolo un vino da degustazione contemplativa più che da ricerca di intensità o potenza.
