Amarone della Valpolicella is an intense wine that highlights both the winemakers’ expertise and techniques and the richness of the terroir from which it originates. Its history is relatively recent, as the first wine bearing this name was not produced until 1938. The Denomination of Controlled Origin (DOC) was recognized in 1968 and elevated to the Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin (DOCG) in 2010.

The Corvina grape variety makes up the majority of the blend, accounting for 40 to 95 percent. It is primarily complemented by the Rondinella grape variety. The grapes are harvested early, while they still have good acidity, and then dried on racks or in stackable crates in special buildings. After dehydration, during which they lose about 40% of their original weight, they are vinified using traditional methods. The high sugar content ensures that wines from this appellation have an alcohol content of over 14% vol. They are full-bodied and high in alcohol, with fairly intense tannins and particularly concentrated aromas of red fruits and spices.
