Ceretto’s 1985 Barolo Bricco Rocche is a prestigious wine made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in one of the most renowned vineyards in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto; it represents a historic expression of Barolo from one of the most celebrated vintages of the 1980s. Today, it displays a deep garnet-red color with distinct orange hues, indicating a long aging process. On the nose, it is extremely complex and ethereal, with notes of wilted rose, dried violet, leather, tobacco, fine spices, tar, truffle, and tertiary aromas such as undergrowth, humus, and precious woods. On the palate, it is harmonious and velvety, with tannins that are now fully developed and silky, a structure that is still present but perfectly integrated, and a residual freshness that supports the mouthfeel and makes it surprisingly lively despite its age. The finish is very long, elegant, and persistent, with balsamic and spicy notes. The 1985 vintage is considered excellent in the Langhe and has produced long-lived, deep wines capable of evolving over decades. It is recommended to serve it at around 18 degrees with the utmost care, possibly with very gentle decanting to separate sediment and encourage the wine to open up aromatically. It pairs perfectly with substantial yet not overly assertive dishes such as tender braised meats, fine game, and very aged cheeses, or can be enjoyed on its own as a meditation wine, making it an overall Barolo of the highest caliber—complex, profound, and representative of the great tradition of the Langhe and the aging potential of Nebbiolo.
