Wine is an integral part of French heritage. France is one of the great wine-producing nations that has shaped this sector for centuries and, thanks to its prestigious wine-growing regions, continues to play a strategic role in the export market. In our shop, we have selected the finest red wines from France’s most important regions: Burgundy and Bordeaux.
Bordeaux owes its success to its unique climatic conditions, its grapes, and the tireless work of its winemakers. It is undoubtedly the region where the world’s most expensive wines are produced—red wines made from French grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, which make up the famous “Bordeaux blend.” The official classification of Bordeaux wines dates back to 1855 and remains in effect to this day. The wines are classified in order of importance from First Growth to Fifth Growth, and the only change made dates back to 1973, when Château Mouton Rothschild was elevated to First Growth status (the others are Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux, and Château Haut-Brion). The classification system for Burgundy wines follows different criteria and is divided into various categories, which—starting with Grand Cru and Premier Cru—are closely linked to specific vineyards. The local grape varieties are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, grown in the most suitable areas.
