The 2020 Barolo from Marchesi di Barolo is a full-bodied and elegant red wine made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Langhe hills; it embodies a classic and approachable style of the appellation. In the glass, it displays a brilliant garnet-red color that will evolve toward orange hues over time; On the nose, it offers a broad, typical profile with hints of wilted rose, small red fruits, spices, tobacco, and light balsamic and tar notes. On the palate, it is balanced with good structure supported by tannins that are present yet quite soft, and a freshness that makes it harmonious and easy to drink. The finish is persistent with spicy and floral notes. The 2020 vintage has produced well-balanced wines that are less austere than more powerful vintages and are therefore already enjoyable even in their relative youth. It is recommended to serve it at around 16–18°C with light aeration; it pairs very well with rich dishes such as braised and roasted red meats, game, hearty pasta dishes, and aged cheeses. I ordered three bottles: a 1999 French wine that I opened recently—it was a huge hit.
The other two were a Barolo Serralunga d’Alba from Fontanafredda and a Nebbiolo d’Alba Riccheri from Marchesi di Barolo, both from 2015. I haven’t opened them yet, but they look very promising.
Shipping and packaging were equally excellent; the Marchesi di Barolo bottle was longer and stuck out, but I managed to protect it anyway.
Great prices you won’t find on other similar sites.
