Ettore Germano’s 2017 Barolo Cerretta is a red wine of great character made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Cerretta cru of Serralunga d’Alba, one of the most structured and long-lived areas within the appellation. In the glass, it displays an intense garnet-red color with orange hues already visible—a sign of the evolution typical of the grape variety. On the nose, it is complex and deep, with aromas of wilted rose, ripe red fruits, plum, sweet spices, tobacco, leather, licorice, and light balsamic and mineral notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and enveloping, with a substantial structure; the tannins are still present but already well-integrated thanks to aging in wood, and a freshness that supports the mouthfeel, making it balanced and dynamic. The finish is long and persistent with spicy and earthy notes. The 2017 vintage was hot and produced powerful, concentrated Barolos that are generally already expressive in their youth. It is recommended to serve it at 16–18°C after decanting for at least an hour; it pairs perfectly with hearty red meats, braised dishes, game, and aged cheeses. Overall, this is a structured, deep Barolo with a strong personality and excellent aging potential.
