The 1986 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru from the Hospices de Beaune (Cuvée Madeleine Collignon) is a rare and highly prestigious wine, the result of a historic donation made in 1976 by Jean Collignon in memory of his mother. Although the 1986 vintage was challenging for Burgundy, the Côte de Nuits produced wines of superior quality that today, nearly forty years later, display an aristocratic maturity.

The wine displays a deep, mature garnet hue, releasing a tertiary bouquet dominated by notes of undergrowth, leather, mushrooms, and damp earth, with hints of licorice and dark spices that have replaced the original red fruit. To fully appreciate its complexity without accelerating the oxidation of such an aged Pinot Noir, the ideal serving temperature is around 17–18°C. The best pairings are exceptionally refined dishes such as beef tenderloin with truffles, roast partridge with lentils, or the classic coq au Chambertin, capable of holding their own against a wine of such density and history.
