The 169th edition of the Grande Cuvée has brought Krug good fortune after two difficult years. The 2013 vintage yielded exceptional fruit from the old vineyards of Ambonnay and Ricey. Cellar Master Julie Cavil says: “The Chardonnays of the vintage were wonderfully fresh and pure, with great intensity and length, while the Pinot Noirs were robust and persistent, with subtle fruit, and the Pinot Meunier added structure, tension, and vibrancy.” The latest edition of the KGC is an astonishing blend of 146 wines from 11 different vintages. The youngest dates from 2013, the oldest from 2000. The final cuvée consists of 43% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, and 22% Meunier, having aged for 84 months in the Krug cellars. What stands out is the freshness of this wine and the youthfulness of its seductive nose, which attests to seven years on the lees. Rich, complex, and mysterious, notes of almonds and hazelnuts blend harmoniously with dried apricot, toasted bread, and lemon zest. Intense, austere, dry, and unforgettable. Let the journey begin.
