Château Angélus is a rare gem from Saint-Émilion that embodies the timeless elegance of a legendary vintage from Bordeaux’s Right Bank and has now reached a level of utmost nobility and refinement. Visually, it presents itself in a very deep, faded garnet red that transitions toward chestnut brown and orange-red hues, typical of a wine with seven decades of history behind it. The bouquet is a compendium of aristocratic tertiary notes: initially shy, it slowly opens up to hints of black truffle, pipe tobacco, old leather, and cigar box, interwoven with a subtle note of plum in alcohol and wilted violets, which still reflects the soul of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
On the palate, the wine is a masterclass in balance and silkiness, where its once-powerful structure has transformed into a velvety, delicate texture—almost fragile, yet still supported by a noble acidity that ensures its persistence. The palate is harmonious and deep, with a finish that lingers on salty, mineral, and undergrowth notes, making it the ideal companion for dishes of exceptional finesse, such as a partridge braised in porcini mushrooms or a Filet Rossini with black truffle shavings, which can respect the delicacy of such an aged wine.
