Burgundy is world-renowned for its white wines made from Chardonnay grapes and its red wines made from Pinot Noir, native grape varieties of this region; these wines have always been regarded as benchmarks for other regions that produce wines from the same grapes. Burgundy is located in central-eastern France and is one of the northernmost places in the world where red wines are produced. Both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir produce their best results in cool climates like that of Burgundy, and it is for this reason that the level of quality achieved here remains unmatched to this day. On the other hand, the latitude also has its drawbacks: adverse weather conditions can lead, in unfavorable vintages, to wines with taste and aroma profiles that are not always optimal. Burgundy wines therefore tend to vary from vintage to vintage, which makes the region’s diversity and complexity all the more intriguing.

In addition to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Burgundy also grows Aligoté (a white grape variety from the Mâconnais region used to produce everyday wines and sometimes found in Crémant de Bourgogne) and Gamay, the famous red grape used to make Beaujolais wines.
