La Serena’s 1999 Brunello di Montalcino is a red wine made exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso grapes, representing a traditional and terroir-driven style of Montalcino; which is currently in a phase of full evolution. In the glass, it presents a deep garnet red color with distinct orange hues typical of extended bottle aging; on the nose, it is broad and complex with tertiary aromas of cherries in brandy, prunes, dried roses, leather, tobacco, sweet spices, licorice, underbrush, and earthy and balsamic notes that develop with aeration; on the palate, it is harmonious and mature, with tannins now silky and perfectly integrated; the structure is still present but smoothed by time, and a residual freshness keeps the mouthfeel lively and elegant; the finish is long, persistent, and very multifaceted, with returns of ripe fruit, spices, and ethereal notes, The 1999 vintage in Montalcino is considered very good, producing balanced, long-lived wines capable of evolving with great elegance over time. It is recommended to serve it at around 18 degrees with great care and, if desired, allow for brief aeration to release the aromas.
