Terreno's philosophy is reflected in every stage of production, from the vineyard to the bottle. In the cellar, the grapes are carefully tended to enhance their qualities without altering their character. Harvesting is done by hand and the grapes are further selected. They use natural yeasts and ferment in open containers for wines destined for aging, while preferring stainless steel tanks to preserve the primary fruit. Aging takes place in large, carefully selected barrels with artisanal coopers. The wines exhibit aromas of ripe cherries, berries, peppery spices, chocolate, and tobacco, with a pronounced freshness and elegant tannins. The Ruhne family, active in Chianti Classico since 1988, certified their vineyards organically in 2014. Terreno is self-sufficient and aims to pass the estate on to better future conditions, believing in the division of Chianti Classico into 11 municipalities and the role of wine, food, and beauty in improving the world.
