Bordering the Grand Cru Grands-Echézeaux, which separates it from Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux is a 30-hectare Grand Cru located on the hills. Less prestigious than its larger sibling, Echézeaux is nevertheless highly sought-after. Emmanuel Rouget's Echézeaux is one of the most sought-after wines in the appellation. It is a full-bodied wine with a supple character thanks to its low acidity and extremely silky tannins. Its appearance is luminous, brilliant, and intensely red. The aromas are subtle and elegant, evoking hints of precious exotic woods, such as cedar.
Emmanuel Rouget is recognized for the meticulous care he takes both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Yields from his vineyard are very low, and particular attention is paid to grape ripeness to preserve the freshness of the wines. All grapes are destemmed, following the estate's tradition; fermentation is slow and occurs after pre-fermentation with cold maceration, invented by Jayer.
