The 2010 Gewurztraminer “Calcaire” from Zind-Humbrecht is a wine that surprises precisely because it chooses moderation in a grape variety known for excess.

In the glass, it displays a luminous golden yellow, with warm reflections that reflect its unwavering evolution. It's a vibrant, unfading color, consistent with a vintage that has produced wines of great balance.

The nose is refined and layered, far from aromatic caricatures: dried rose, ripe lychee, pink grapefruit peel, followed by candied ginger, green tea, and a touch of oriental spices. Over time, notes of pale honey, medicinal herbs, and a chalky minerality emerge, refreshing and bringing order to the aromatic palette.

On the palate, it's broad yet taut, with a surprisingly vertical texture for this varietal. Residual sugar is noticeable, yet perfectly balanced by a saline acidity, clearly derived from the limestone soils. The sensation is never cloying: rather, it's that of a precise, sculpted wine that unfolds in layers.

Today, the 2010 vintage reaches an elegant maturity, with well-integrated tertiary aromas and still plenty of staying power. Perfect with spicy but not hot cuisine, delicate blue cheeses, or dishes featuring shellfish and sweet spices.
