Sold in millions of bottles worldwide, Mouton Cadet is the most widely distributed brand on the planet. Mouton Cadet is a branded wine, the first of its kind created by the Rothschild family in 1930. That year, Baron Philippe de Rothschild decided to downgrade his wine and market it under the name Mouton Cadet. It was an immediate success. At the time, it was still a Pauillac. But in the following years, grapes were scarce, and the supply was extended to other municipalities and vineyards. Mouton Cadet thus became a Bordeaux produced annually. Its success has never waned since.
