Sassicaia is one of the world's most renowned Italian wines, a monument to oenology and a paragon of balance. It is the jewel in the crown of Italian winemaking, one of the Tuscan wines that brought Super Tuscans worldwide fame. It was born from the intuition of Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who wanted to fulfill his dream of creating a wine like the greats of Bordeaux. He therefore decided to plant Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards on his property, Tenuta San Guido.
Bolgheri Sassicaia is a regal wine, a brilliant ruby red in color. The nose reveals notes of cherries, blackcurrants, rosemary, and lavender, along with raspberry leaves and a variety of herbaceous notes, pipe tobacco, and hints of oak. On the palate, it is intense and immediately surprising, complex and smooth, with a good body and infinite persistence.
It's a long-lived wine, undaunted by time, an immortal bottle. It's a perfect representation of the Bolgheri terroir, the first Italian wine so important as to require its own production regulations, the Bolgheri DOC.
